Killing Spree - HALLOWEEK EDITION

(More like a terrifying gauntlet of torture followed by a slow and trying process of dismemberment for each victim)

My doleful darling. My crestfallen crony. I know… I know all too well how you feel!
THERE ARE SIMPLY TOO MANY THINGS GOING ON THIS HALLOWEEN!!!

We mourned when we heard that there was only one major film release this October to appease our needs for unease. But like every good horror tale, that lost hope has come back to haunt us (and with the vengeance of seven sequels, so it seems)!

Thus, like a murderous character wielding a chainsaw and a pitchfork at the same time, I shall cut myself short and get to the point.

This is not everything. This is everything that I would attend if I could simultaneously take up as many different consciousnesses as it would take to attend all of these events. It is not in order of preference or really in any order at all. Check each day for listings on that particular day. I have repeated entries for events that span multiple days.

So without much further ado, here is the INSANE INDEX OF DOOM for this HalloWeek!

The Witches' Compass
[This was also included in my last Killing Spree post]
An interactive ritual environment and celebration in which participants are guided along 'the crooked path' of sorcery, to work both the mysteries of the Waxing or Waning Moons.  These gatherings are not lectures or classes in the traditional sense but immersive experiences that engage all of the senses of mind, body, and soul, and are generally spiritual and not devotional in nature. Participants  may be of any spiritual lineage or in fact none at all, but our primary focus will be on the ways and means of Witching. The rituals are designed for anyone. So that a beginner may feel comfortable and a more advanced practitioner will not feel as though they are attending a witchcraft 101 course.  All are welcome.

THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE

R, 83 Minutes
USA, 1974
Directed by: Tobe Hooper
High-definition digital projection
“CHAINSAW starts with a creepy narration (provided by a then-unknown John Larroquette) to give the impression that it’s a true story, then shows five young Texans heading to a desecrated cemetery. Siblings Sally (Marilyn Burns) and invalid Franklin (Paul A. Partain) are most concerned because their grandfather is buried there. Leaving, they decide to visit their grandfather’s old farmhouse off in the woods. Unbeknownst to them, the neighboring house is home to a family of demented cannibals, which includes the chainsaw–wielding Leatherface (Gunnar Hansen). From there, the massacre begins.
“By the Seventies, moviegoers had seen their share of monsters and even a few Norman Bates-type characters. But nothing could prepare them for Tobe Hooper’s twisted foray into the heart of the Lone Star State. Here, what was perceived as the most stable of institutions, the American family, is the beast. With that, it’s no coincidence that the scariest scene in the film takes place at a dinner table. Hooper’s vision is horrid yet engrossing. His subtle touches (background radio bulletins repeating gory crimes throughout the state) and grotesque characterizations make rural Texas seem like a hellish place where only the strong survive. But the worst part about this vision is that despite its sensational aspects, it never seems too far from what could be the truth.” – Austin Chronicle

Here's a little story: Last year, my feller and I drove down to Philadelphia planning to attend the Baltimore race. We had a grand ol' time visiting the Eastern State Penitentiary's Terror Behind the Walls (which was pretty awesome, by the way, and was pretty you should go see it this year, by the way) - what? Yes. That is my idea of a great vacation. Shut up. We also almost got stuck on a NJ roadside, for your information, and that is the furthest thing from my idea of a great anything. At any rate, it wasn't until the last moments before a little terror named Sandy hit that that race was cancelled. We drove through some mighty frightening rainfall on our way back to NYC, but obviously that was nothing compared to what followed. At any rate, it's kind of crazy to remember how we dilly-dallyed at H&M in Philly trying to buy last minute costumes for Sleep No More's Halloween Party while the entire city basically evacuated and our car almost blew away. Sigh. Memories.

How about now?
